Jiguang Xingtong breaks ground on Shanghai production and R&D headquarters with planned capacity of 800 laser communication terminals a year

Commercial space laser communication terminal maker Jiguang Xingtong has started building its production and R&D headquarters in Minhang, Shanghai; the project will integrate the process from development to delivery to support volume production.

According to the official WeChat account of Today Minhang, construction of Jiguang Xingtong's production and R&D (Shanghai) headquarters began on 9 October at the Caohejing Zhuanqiao Science and Technology Oasis.

Once complete, the project will integrate the process from development to delivery of laser communication terminals, giving an annual production capacity of 800 laser communication terminals (units/sets) and supporting volume development and delivery of laser communication terminals for commercial space.

Our take: laser communication terminals are one of the key payloads for networking LEO constellations. Jiguang Xingtong's Shanghai production and R&D headquarters reflects a commercial space supply chain moving towards manufacturing at scale.
