Stainless-steel liquid oxygen/methane reusable launch vehicles; sea-surface soft-landing first-stage recovery

Space Epoch operates through Beijing Space Epoch Technology Co., Ltd., incorporated on 26 November 2019 in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Yizhuang), with Wei Yi as legal representative; several media accounts date the rocket team's formation to March 2022. The company develops stainless-steel propellant tanks and the Yuanxingzhe-1 family of medium-to-large reusable liquid oxygen/methane launch vehicles, with an R&D centre in Beijing, a test and launch base in Shandong and an assembly, test and reuse base in Hangzhou. At 04:40 on 29 May 2025 it completed the first sea flight-and-recovery test of a Yuanxingzhe-1 verification vehicle at the Oriental Spaceport; that vehicle was 4.2 m in diameter, about 26.8 m tall and about 57 t at lift-off, flew to roughly 2.5 km over about 125 seconds and executed eight phases from ignition and full-thrust climb through throttling, first engine shutdown, coast, engine restart, deceleration to a hover and a soft landing on the sea surface. In July 2025 it completed a combined engine and control-system gimbal hot-fire test. The orbital Yuanxingzhe-1 has a lift-off mass of 575 t, stands 66 m tall at 4.2 m diameter and is designed for 20 reuses; Shanghai Securities News reported LEO capacity of 14 t expendable and 7 t in recovery configuration, with a target launch cost of RMB 20,000 per kilogram. In early December 2025 the reusable-rocket base was signed with Hangzhou's Qiantang district — RMB 5.2 billion of total investment, a 108-mu phase-one site of about 60,000 square metres and a planned output of 25 rockets a year — and construction started on 7 January 2026. The company closed angel through B rounds between September 2022 and February 2026, with B-round investors including IDG Capital, Hanhui Capital and Qiantang Industrial Group. Revenue and valuation are not publicly disclosed.
